Red door in Świdnica

On my „hunt” for the next UNESCO world heritage – the Church of Peace in Świdnica – I had some time to spend in the town as the church was open for visits only in the afternoon. Nearby that Church of Peace, from which pictures will be uploaded soon, I saw this red door inviting me to take a picture.

Summer in Wrocław – Rynek

Finally. 2 sunny days in a row. After over a week of miserable weather, it was so nice to just go out again, enjoy the sun and taking some pictures. I took a couple of shots; this one is from the main square in Wrocław, Poland.

And as the weather forecast is announcing bad weather from Friday again, I will use the last day with sun tomorrow and visit another World Heritage Site, from which I will certainly take a couple of pictures.

Back of Wrocław Cathedral

It has been some days since you could see the sun here in Wrocław. So, perfect opportunity to process some older shots, like this of the back of Wrocław Cathedral (Archikatedra św. Jana Chrzciciela we Wrocławiu). Unfortunately I could not get a bigger picture because of obstacles. But I think that crop is still all right. Now let’s just hope that the sun will be shining again, I’m running out of pictures to process.

Youth of the Nation

The picture shows the inside of the University in Wrocław. Better: The department of polish philology.

For me as an economist, it was always unclear how people can dedicate their life to their language and literature. But especially if you got taught a bit about polish history, you know how important that was and still is.
One of the main reason we have a polish state today, is because the polish people always kept their language, even if their state wasn’t existing for a long time. So if you know that, you get a feeling that this building of the university might be one of the most important places for the nation.

Sunset nad Odrą

As i didn’t buy my camera to make HDR shots only, it was about time to get to know my camera a little bit better. So I took it out for a sunset on the German-Polish border where I live during the week, and tried the settings a little bit.

That’s now my first non-HDR picture and I am quite satisfied with it.

Luis Temple on Peacock Island

Together with my girlfriend, we visited the little Peacock Island on the Wannsee in Berlin. There you find a Luis Temple, and my girlfriend wanted to try to take some shots with my camera also. I didn’t see this one (as it is me in the picture) until I started to process some other photos from that day.

Unfortunately the colors were not so great, that’s why I had to try something else with it. I like the way the picture looks now, the lack of color gives it a nice touch in my opinion.

Government District in Berlin

Believe it or not, but that picture is taken just one hour after the Flag/Rainbow picture. The sky cleared up but I didn’t find a nice spot for taking a shot of the sunset. Until I turned around and saw it reflected in one of the buildings belonging to Berlin’s government district.By the way, in the background is the German Parliament Building, Reichstag/Bundestag.

German Rainbow

Having a sunny, free Saturday afternoon i decided to go out in the evening, to get some pictures with the sunset. When I was going to the metro, the sky was still clear. 25 minutes later, when I reached to the center, it was the opposite. But, as I’ve learned through sailing: There is no bad weather, there are only bad clothes. So I tried my best, walking around and then I saw it the flag in front of the Reichstag. Normally it is hanging down, but the storm gave me opportunity for a good picture. I walked around a bit and five minutes later I noticed the rainbow. So I went back, took a raw and processed that raw now to a HDR from a single shot (for my first time).

I am really happy with that result, even though I didn’t get any sunset that day.

Borussia Monument in Berlin

The Borussia Monument is to find right next to the S-Bahn Station Wannsee in Berlin.

Borussia means Prussia and the Statue was built in 1880, supposed to be the pictorial personification of the Prussian state.

This is the first picture taken with my new Canon 500d that I would like to share, and I am very happy with the result. The functions make it much easier to take the three pictures, than with my old Sony. So even though I don’t have the camera for a long time yet, I already took lots of pictures, much more coming soon.

Riverbank near Museum Island, Berlin

Shortly after taking the photo of the Berlin Cathedral, the reflection of the sunset in the windows of a building east of the Cathedral caught my interest. By the way, I bought a new camera now, Canon 500d. I still have some pictures from my old camera which I will share, but now I can start to take even better pictures and make some more experiments.
